Chiropractic for Construction Workers

For those that work in the construction trade, their bodies are put to the test every day.

Chiropractors are excellent health care allies for those who work in particularly physical jobs. Chiropractors are musculoskeletal experts. Their job is to treat sprains and strains, resulting in decreased pain. Chiropractors are also a wealth of knowledge when it comes to providing consultative advice on preventative techniques as a way to avoid further injury.

The most common injuries that construction workers tend to experience are:
  • Upper and lower back pain due to improper lifting techniques.
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) often caused by excessive power tools use leading to damage of the wrists and elbow joints due to improper handling and excessive vibration.
  • Poor body mechanics - When we don't move correctly and safely, the spine is subjected to abnormal stresses that over time can lead to degeneration of spinal structures like discs and joints, injury, and unnecessary wear and tear.
The conditions, as mentioned above, cause patients pain and discomfort, which ultimately affects their ability to live their life normally. Chiropractic has proven to be an effective treatment for these types of conditions. Often manual adjustments are considered to be the most effective form of therapy, but every situation and patient is unique. The chiropractor may recommend some other treatments, such as soft tissue mobilization and taping.

Along with treating injuries and chronic pain, your chiropractor can help you prevent further damage by suggesting some lifestyle changes that will support your body both in and out of work.

Some simple lifestyle changes to consider are the type of footwear worn on your feet for long hours. Another variation can be the introduction of ergonomic equipment into some of your regular activities. Something as simple as implementing a 'warm-up and cool-down' stretch routine before and after work can significantly decrease the risk of injury.

If you would work in a physically demanding job and you are experiencing some of the complaints discussed in this blog, make an appointment to see us at Core Chiropractic Center.
