 Chiropractic Solutions for Flat Feet


The average person spends about 4 hours per day on their feet and takes between 8,000 to 10,000 steps. It’s easy to forget about the repetitive brunt force our feet take all day …unless it’s your feet that are causing you the pain or discomfort.
 
We’ve all heard the term ‘flat-footed’. But what does this actually mean? Flat-foot means a lack of the medial longitudinal arch of the foot.

Not very many people have actual flat-feet. For those that do, this condition affects just under 2% of adults and is referred to as ‘rigid pes planus’. This is where the foot is completely flat even during non-weight bearing activities. 

Approximately 20-25% per cent of adults are estimated to have what is called the ‘flexible (or functional) pes planus’ form of flat-feet. In these cases, the arch will appear normal when the person is sitting but upon engaging in weight bearing activities, you won’t be able to place an index finger under the arch. This is the type of flat feet we are describing in this blog post. 

Having flat feet can lead to problems such as heel pain, bunions, hammertoes, shin splints, and knee/hip/back pain.

The pain generated by the above-mentioned conditions can be treated by engaging in visit to your Chiropractor. Once your Chiropractor has concluded that flat-feet is the cause of your discomfort, an individually fitted, orthotic arch support(s) will likely be recommended.
